Heavy rain and thunder roared this morning for Oahu with flooding reported throughout the island.
It’s unusual we see lightning and hear thunder but this morning was not out of the question. The unsettled weather is forecasted all this week as a pair of rain producing systems linger in our area.

Ever since trying out the Kabocha (Japanese squash) Pie from Boulangerie Bakery on the corner of South King Street and Kaheka Street, I have been hooked with this delicious pie from day one.

The Kabocha Pie is made from real kabocha and not from a can. The crust is textured like a croissant and lightly sweetened with a syrup drizzled on top of the crust. Mr. Yang, owner of Boulangerie Bakery, introduced this pie especially for the Thanksgiving holiday and limited count is available. If you have a chance, try this healthy and delicious kabocha pie. It’s my #1 favorite pie!

It’s amazing how our Thanksgiving festivity is truly an international type as we had more friends and families who gathered together for this special dinner at John’s house. Unlike the usual turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie, we had sushi’s, pasta, various caserroles, and delicious home made Thai favorites by Y. We had close to 30 people this time, the most ever. Akiko’s parents from Japan also joined us, and it was nice for them to experience this international Thanksgiving dinner.

All the kids and babies have grown up and all of them busy playing video games and wrestling with Joji. For some reason, kids love Joji and he’s always taking care of the kids at the parties. Ever since John returned from the mainland, he has been very generous to organize all the get together events and all the food preparations. We all thank and appreciate his, Y’s, and Daniel’s countless efforts. We’ll be getting back together in Christmas and the New Year’s celebrations. Check out more photos here.

With the holiday season kicking in, traffic foes and road rages will be imminent, but remember holiday is a time to enjoy and no excuse to stare at driver’s eyes and finger gestures. Don’t end up like this fellow in Japan.

City & County of Honolulu has a new traffic information/advisory website with interactive maps that have up-to-date news. Check out the website before you commute to your favorite shopping centers. Drive Akamai Hawaii!

And speaking of special discounts, check out your favorite shopping center’s websites for any special promotions and goodies.

Ala Moana Center will provide complimentary bottled water for the shoppers while Wal-Mart has a special surprise via email notices. I highly recommend to check your favorite shopping center’s websites for up-to-date news. Happy Holidays!

We all (local residents living here) know that Honolulu Airport can become quite inconvenient when we cannot park our cars and wait at the gate area when picking up arrival families and friends. Plus, finding a parking at the airport is a challenge at times. Most of us would circle around the airport waiting for our cell phones to ring. Now, the airport is offering a free 1-hour service to park and wait inside your cars. The parking lot is located along the Aolele Street. Read news article here.

NOTE: Unattended cars parking here will be cited and towed.

The higher shipping costs likely will affect the prices Hawai’i residents pay for everyday goods. A 20-pound bag of rice, for example, will cost 3.9 cents more to ship and a head of lettuce nearly a penny more. And it will cost an additional 2.7 cents to ship an 8-foot-long 2-by-4 piece of wood.
At this time of the holiday season, our main shipping carriers will raise their prices once again. Consumers are already resistant in spending and this could even add more resistant latter part of the year. It would be a challenge for the retailers to really give out any special discounts for the holiday shoppers. Read news article here.

A nice day to be off from work as it was a Veteran’s Day. Surfed this morning at Pops and met Kenny. We haven’t seen each other for a while and, as always, he’s a very generous guy who shares the waves and overall a nice guy to talk to. We talked about the past about how Pops used to not be crowded and the incredible inside rights (summertime). The crowd also changed although the old timers still remain. Today’s condition was mostly a sea breeze type with light onshore winds and surf in the flat to 2 ft range and inconsistent. Although the waves were not that exciting, we both had nice laughs and stories to share.

TOKYO — Walt Disney Co. is planning to start its own cellphone service in Japan next spring with Disney-branded phones and animated content, a person familiar with the matter said Sunday, a move that introduces more competition in an already tough market.
Interesting news. Japan is one of the top countries with cellphone usages. Pretty much all the households own a cellphone, and it’s a convenient way for communication in the very busy cities of Japan. It’s truly a competitive market to divulge in, but amusement parks like the DisneyLand and DisneySea in Tokyo are so popular!! Read news article here.
