Never ending art

Co-worker of mine sent me this Colliers sign from California. It’s a never ending art. You might wonder why not replace the sign? Because these metal signs are quite expensive just to replace it.  Talk about our local graffiti being ugly here on Oahu…

What can you do?

by Mark on June 26, 2007

It has been a bothersome ordeal here at our studio. Ever since a new neighbor moved in last week, the power kept on going off with no apparent reason. This was just our unit. Came to find out that the circuit breaker (located in our neighbor’s unit) would turn off so basically someone had to turn it back on. The weird part of this was that it would turn off when no one was using the electricity.

The neighbor informed us that the electrician will swing by in the morning between 9am – 10am and fix the trouble. 1 hour, that’s not bad…

When both of us came back from work around 6pm, the power was out. So I knocked the neighbor’s door and no one responded. Then I called the property manager to see if he had a spare key, so that he could go in and turn the circuit breaker on. To my surprise, he didn’t have a spare. He also told us that the neighbor went for a dinner cruise and won’t be back till later tonight. Emiko and I were ferocious and deeply angered by this incident. Why are we the one sacrificing, food’s spoiling, etc…?

We decided to eat out rather then being a miserable chipmunks waiting for the neighbor’s return. Came back home about 8:30pm and the neighbor was still out. We lit a small candle and just pretty much sit there. About 9pm, I went downstairs to see if their unit was out too. At that moment, I saw the neighbors approaching. They were smiling and having a nice laughter together. I was about to go off but when I saw a lady (probably in her mid-50s and her mother in the late-70s), I couldn’t just express my frustration and give them a heartache. For some reason, a picture of my mother and sister appeared. What if someone yelled at them like that?

I explained patiently that our unit had no power and were waiting for their arrival. Their faces suddenly became uneasy and told me that the electrician came by this morning and fixed the trouble. They absolutely had no idea that our unit was out of power. As soon as they got into their unit, the power was restored. Emiko and I were both glad that it wasn’t a big power trouble but something that just needed to turn back on. That night, I explained to my landlord and he was very generous to give a $30 off our rent. What a night!?

From the Honolulu Advertiser:

A 24-year-old Wahiawã woman and a 22-year-old Schofield Barracks soldier were arrested in Wahiawã yesterday after they allegedly tried to extort a man whose cellular phone was taken from him in a robbery on Saturday.

The cell phone owner, 21, told police a friend called the number to the stolen cell phone and a woman answered. He said his friend told the woman the the cell phone owner wanted it returned, but the woman demanded $80 to give the phone back.

Police said the phone owner, 21, met with the man and woman about 10:10 a.m. yesterday in Wahiawã and told the pair he only had $30 — not $80 as was demanded — to get his phone back.

At that point, the other man drew a pocketknife and plainclothes officers who were monitoring the situation moved in to arrest the couple on suspicion of second-degree extortion.

Police do not believe the pair arrested yesterday took part in the robbery on Saturday.

Incident like this is just plain stupid and those responsible should be punished up to the extent of the law. Some people are just too lazy to earn money. Doing these kind of unselfish action just don’t build your income, instead you get published in the newspaper. It’s sad…

View of the ocean from the Waimanalo beach park. This beach park is located on the east side of the island and has spectacular views and nice color saturations. It’s a nice and beautiful place to enjoy your tropical afternoon.
